Grow Leaders, Develop Teams, Make an Impact!

Let’s face it… I’m old. I’ve been an active participant in the computing marketplace and associated communities for decades. Software, hardware, firmware, IT in myriad market segments. Early stage firms with little funding to major enterprises which are now leaders in their space. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with people who jumpstarted the industry, ignited our passions, and helped to rock our world. Visionaries, luminaries, and get-it-done leaders. Very cool!

I’m happy to say that I’m still working and striving to make an impact each and every day. The question of why is simple: being in tech is like bathing in the fountain of youth. The exhilaration of working alongside smart, highly motivated, creative, and driven people is exciting. And yes, interacting with people significantly younger than me helps keep my mind sharp too. As a result, I feel as energetic, agile, and driven as ever!

To be sure, I’ve been helped along the way by managers who took a chance hiring a snotty young guy not long out of university, by being in the right place at the right time, by taking risks (i.e. roles, products, locations, teams, technologies), and simply by being lucky.

I also learned a lot and am eager to share. Sure, it’s possible to listen to the podcasts of exceptional leaders or hear them at conferences, but that is arguably less valuable than working in coordination with someone who is skilled and accomplished. That’s not to say that reading and listening to others isn’t worthwhile; it simply isn’t the same as direct interaction and observation. Ask anyone who has benefitted from a coach or mentor, and you’ll get the same response.

This is why I started Kruger Technology LLC. I’m far from ready to quit the world of tech. I continue to be the Chief Product Officer of Almaden, Inc., overseeing a talented Engineering team (developers, testers, designer, and product manager) participating in corporate strategy sessions, helping to drive important partnerships, and assisting in the establishment of our rightful space in the marketspace. Getting Gartner to recognize our solution in a recent guide was a truly glorious milestone, in addition to seeing broad customer acceptance.

Still, something was missing for me. I like to share leadership and team experiences with others, helping them to grow, and now seemed like a good time to formalize the effort. How to grow individual contributors into managers, and in turn leaders; how to take a collection of intelligent hotshots and turn them into a collaborative team; how to create and implement processes that leverage the best of a team’s culture married to disciplines and rigor that yield tremendous products; how to make the necessary tough decisions that lead to long-term success.

I’m here to help and am a long way from taking the road to retirement. Sharing and helping others to make a meaningful impact is what floats my boat!
